I spent part of the morning in James' room putting back into storage some of his baby clothes. Can you imagine?? Wasn't he just born?? He has grown out of all his 3 month clothing and is now wearing SIX month clothing. He has seemingly doubled in size overnight. His personality is amazing - demanding, but mellow at the same time, happy and smiley, and very, very chatty. We have been reading to him for the past month, and his little cooing vocabulary is amazing. He makes so many noises - and he's LOUD! When he is really upset, it almost sounds like he has mastered "Mama"! But then again, that's something I've been pushing anyway ;-) He has been taking marathon naps on the couch - usually 2 hours stretches a couple times a day, and hes sleeping pretty good at night - still getting up once a night - but no biggie :)

We have had some really weird weather lately - tornados, bad thunderstorms, hail and lots of humidity and heat - but also a ton of rain! So my little garden that I planted a little over a month ago has gone CRAZY with flowers - I couldn't be happier with how it has turned out! Now if Allie would quit running through my pretty flowers we'd be all set!
In two weeks, James and I get to go to visit my sister Sara in the bay area of California for 5 days, and then spend 2 days with my inlaws in Camarillo, Ca. I am SO excited - It will be such a fun trip. I am a little worried about flying with a baby by myself - but once I do it, I'm sure there will be no stopping James and I!

Work is going well - I must say that the more personality James gets, the harder it is for me to go to work - I miss him so much when I'm away from him, even if its just for a few hours. I am grateful Spencer and I have worked out our schedules so that one of us is always with him.

That's all for now! Enjoy the pictures!

Oh Canada!

Part of the Boulter Family took their first trip to Canada last week. As part of my job at the American Society for Civil Engineers is traveling to the National Concrete Canoe Competition. This year it was in Montreal Canada. While it may look like a regular city Montreal does have its little quarks like not making left turns while on the island of Montreal. On the first day of competition 1 team got 2 tickets for making illegal left turns. It was really interesting seeing what these schools could do with a couple hundred pounds of concrete. While some of the boats looked like a piece of sidewalk in the shape of a boat others looked like perfect fiberglass boats with a car like finish.

The race part of the competition took place at the 1976 olympic basin. The weather on race day was perfect and I got my old tan back. The move is a clip from the men's sprint finals. While I slaved away in Canada my wife and child enjoyed themselves in Williamsburg, VA. Grammie watched James for the day while Kami went to Water Country USA. I think next time I'll send Kami to a foreign country and I'll go to the waterpark.

Spencer's birthday surprise! Revealed!

Three months ago, Spencer went into Johnston and Murphy shoe store at Leesburg outlets and found a pair of shoes on clearance that he REALLY liked (for spencer to REALLY like something in the clothing department is a BIG deal) But they only had a size 10 1/2 and size 11. Spencer wears a size 10. So, alas, we couldn't get them. But every time Spencer has come with me to the outlets since then, he continued to go into the store on the off chance that they would have his size, even though the shoe is on clearance.

So, two weeks before Spencer's birthday, I went to the outlets to do some bithday shopping, I went into the store again and spoke with the manager. After half a dozen phone calls to different stores, he FOUND the shoe, in Spencer's size, at a store in Maine. One of TWO pairs on the whole east coast in a size 10. So I paid for the shoes and for shipping, and they should be here this week! I told Spencer that I had gone to the store again, but that the manager had called around and NOT been able to find the shoe anywhere :)

On his birthday this past tuesday, he was thrilled with the shoes. So much so that in the middle of the resturaunt, he tok off his sneakers and put his new shoes on. :) Here are some pictures!!

I found this adorable ad in the parenting magazine this month :) The little pout is almost identical to what James does when he is upset!

This weekend dad had a boys day out with James. Spencer's company held their annual picnic on what had to have been the hottest day of the year. It was a scorching 102 degrees outside. They had food and games and as you can see from James' first portrait they had a caricature artist. Even in the hot weather James was a perfect subject. He sat and smiled through the whole thing. In the past few days James has gotten rather attached to his purple dragon so we included it in his drawing.
The laddies at ASCE adore James and gave Spencer a few chances to escape for food as they switched off holding him. As long as daddy was in eye sight he just smiled but if he left little James' lip started to quiver. From what Liz tells me he is just like his father when it comes to pouting.

Dennis the menance

Great Grandma Heider sent James some khaki overalls this past week - he looks so cute in them. Kinda give off a dennis the menance vibe!
James also now has a tooth bud. For the past week, he has begun to be pretty gooey, and tries to chew on everything. We weren't sure why, until lsat night Spencer spotted a little white bud in James' mouth. He's a little uncomfortable, but hes still hanging in there. Little tyelnol, orajel and something to chew on, and hes pretty comfortable. Thank you Angie for the orajel and tyelonol!!

Here are some cute pictures of James in his overalls. I LOVE his little smiles. He was pretty excited to see mommy with the camera today.

Bath time with Uncle William

I had to post some pictures of my brother, William and baby James.

Tonight I had my brother give James a bath - it was the first bath he has ever given a baby, and he handled with wonderful ease and love. I was so impressed and proud of him! Yay for Uncle William!!

After the bath James fell asleep cuddled with William.
